Interview with Jenz of Inside Art Zine

INSIDE ART ZINE

Interviewed by: Corix

Hello Jenzzzz, how are you?
Jenzzz - Beside this wacky voices in my head I¡¦m fine.

I would like to start things off with this traditional intro, pls. introduce yourself, your age if you don¡¦t mind, your current stuff you are into and what do you do for a living?
I¡¦m a 39-years old graphic freelancer from Germany, who loves to drink cheap redwine, while waiting on the rising sun, after a long night roaming on graveyards (and bars) of my hometown Trier (which is the oldest city of Germany, about 2000 years old).

Just a short history how you start Inside Artzine?
I start it as a black&white copyzine in 1990, just because of the reason to impress the girls. As you can imagine, it wasn¡¦t working very well, so I decided ten years later to publish a fullcolor version of our artscum parade. Now it¡¦s okay with the babes.

How old are you when you first discover your talent in art? What was the first thing you draw, paint etc. is it some kind of weird stuff already?
-

Are you some kind of a loner person who doesn¡¦t like to mingle with other kids when you were just a kid? Are you some kind of a suicidal? Are you a weirdo? Etc.?
I¡¦m not sicker than you, I guess. You sit right in the middle of lone desert, you are the only one taking drugs/think about sex/listen to blasphemical music in a radius of 1000km and still publish a great underground grindcore zine and you call my a weirdo?!

You¡¦ve been doing this for a long time already, and honestly me, it is my first time to read a zine like yours that is focusing only on art with those sick and weird art, who influence you in doing like this if there¡¦s any? What was the first artzine you¡¦ve ever read? What are those current artzine you like these days? How about your favorite artist? Is there any that inspires you a lot? Could you name a few?
There are so many brilliant talents around this dirty planet that impressed me! Over the years I have seen so many asskicking, disturbing stuff, that I¡¦m absolutely convinced, that some of these guys have seen the other side¡K.. Ok, you want names¡K the dead ones: Bosch, Beksinski, Bukowski¡K the living: Druillet, Serpieri, Hussar¡K My first artzine I have read was german Zine called COMIC TRASH (including lots of American classic stuff like Jeff Gaither, Jim Blanchard¡K). Today¡¦s artzines are not so many (which are focust on artscum only), try this on: MALEFACT (Paniscus Revue, PO Box 21448, Long Beach CA, 90801 USA or google it, I¡¦m not sure if it still excisting)

What was the reaction of your parents when they first saw your work? What are their impressions?
-

Since your zine caters on weird and some brutal art, do you like horror movies? Gore movies? How about smoking weed? Do you drink alcohol? Have you tried doing your artwork being stoned? Or drunk?
I have tried everything being stoned. Including watching horrormovies. I prefer psychological terror to total carnage. I loved to watch japans ghostmovies for a while, you know with pale girls with long black hair in their face and lots of lunatic bahaviours, but a good splatter movie is always welcome. Have you seen the helicopter scene in ¡§29week later¡¨?! There¡¦s a guy who massacre a huge crowd of undead by flying through them with a heli. Unbelivable. To come back to the question: It¡¦s fun to be creative on drugs, but to transfer this ideas to results you have to be clean (otherwise you will be remain in your ideas for eternity)

You have released 11 issues already, do you have favorite of your issues you have released? How would you classify that you are different, unique and not a rip off one from any other artzine?
Maybe the INSIDE artzine is a rip off or it¡¦s unique, I don¡¦t care at all. I think it¡¦s okay to steal good things and to use other experinences to construct something new, but without your own ¡§ignition¡¨ it¡¦s worthless. I¡¦m always looking forward, the next issue is always the best one.

Your 11th issue is the first ever release that is written in English, but I have noticed there¡¦s one story or I guess that was an article or whatever because it was written in your own lingo, what was that all about? I have the feeling that it was about the Nazis and Jews, I hope it wasn¡¦t some kind of racist shit! And by the way, is your zine intended to circulate only in your country or in other places that speak and understand the language like yours?
This storie ¡§Die Kapitanowitsch Triologie¡¨ isn¡¦t real German. It¡¦s a hellish mixture of dialect, contrived words and crazy worldplays. So it was impossible to translate it in English. You¡¦re right, this story is about the ¡§Nazi/Jews¡¨ subject. It¡¦s a parable about the inhuman, pervert brutalization of the people in the Third Reich (fascist periode in Germanys historie from 1936-1945) and it¡¦s NOT racist or fascist shit! It about the question, what must happened to some people (some dump, fucked up assholes!!!) that they kill about 7 millions people (jews, roma, communist, opposition) in perfect organized killingcamps and made soap and lampshades out of their fat and skin?! How could they got such a bunch of stupid, inhuman assholes?! This storie shows the perverse structures of order and obedience, of sadism and conscience. We all must fight this! Don¡¦t belive any leaders, don¡¦t belive their lies of predominance or mastery. We are all the same motherfuckers!

As an underground zine editor, and your zine is released in a full color pro printed shit, what are your views about the copyright and anti-copyright issue, is your zine copyrighted since it was released Pro? Pls. share your thoughts on that.
Think, the work and art of artist should be protected. It¡¦s a fucking hard and long job, and many of them try to live from their art. My experiences are, if you ask them to use some of their work for non commercial reasons, 90% give their permission. So, ask first, every artist is grateful about any response on his work.

How about in your graphics, what kind of graphic and multi media software you are using? Like also in your webpage, you got a cool website, what kind of software you are using for your html codes and editing? Do you use dreamweaver, macromedia flash and stuffs like that?
-

You are also into some kind of grind and noise music right? What are those kind of music you love to listen while doing some artwork? How about those current bands spinning on your disc while answering this shit?
Yep, besides some high spirits beach punkrock tunes like Bouncing Souls or good old Samiam, need some eardestructing noise like Strapping Young Lad, Impaled Nazarene or Birdflesh, just to oppress the voices in my head. I must admit, that I¡¦m not really into this underground grind thing, so if you like to send my some!

What about in the underground music scene? I know Germany has a huge underground scene, are you active in attending gigs in your area? What can you say about the scene in your area? Is the d.i.y thing is still alive there?
I love to visit live gigs, the smaller, more chaotic, so much the better. This stupido arenaconcerts are for idiots, who don¡¦t care about, that they were cheated and plundered. The D.I.Y. thing will never die. It makes no different if your are in big cities like Berlin or Cologne or if your are in hillbilly regions: There are always crazy people who organized concerts, bands, zines. Ok, they slaughter more goats on countryside black metal concerts, but that¡¦s because of the middle age traditions and rituals.

Anyway, I wanna know your views about religion? I saw on your myspace acct. that you are a Taoist, am I right? Are you still practicing it? For me religion is bullshit!!! What can you say about that? Pls. explain.
Hey Corix, don¡¦t belive anything you see on the net. The web and especially MySlave.com is the arena of the posers and liars, so am I: I¡¦m not a Taoist (and I¡¦m not from a pacific island). Relgion is just a simple-hearted self suggestion to escape the impending absurdity of live. There will be no heaven, paradise, nirvana, hell, whatever. If you close your eyes, it will be forever. If you don¡¦t accept this, you are an easy victim for religious leaders, which gives you new hope to save your little, dirty soul, but only when you follow their lies. They don¡¦t give a shit on your soul all they wan¡¦t is more power. Power about you, your lifestyle, your future. Organized Religion is dangerous and destructive bullshit and will be the reason of the next global war. Remember my words, dudes!

Speaking of ¡§myspace¡¨ and you had one; some says myspace are for trendies, what can you say about that?
I don¡¦t give a fuck about what ¡§some¡¨ says. I use MySpace to get connection to other zines, artist, weirdos worldwide and this works perfect. As long as it didn¡¦t run by the CIA or Bin laden (or both) I will use this worldwide multiplication channel. Everything that brings us together is good.

Your views about sexism? And how about racism? There are lots of racist skins in your country, right? Could you share your views on that?
How do you sexism define? Where does it starts, when should it be forbidden, when it must be battle against? Think, if any art should be allow to checkout the limits, but in every other context it¡¦s stupid, unfair and misanthropic. Think we all know the situation of women in some countries or the image of women in the western media (in the meantime men too). Fuck this. Women are goddess. We should admire them!

This is classic but this is my favorite part of my interview. My question is; Define Love? ļ
Just love what your are doing!

I guess that¡¦s all! Thanx a lot for doing this Jenzzz, and good luck to your up coming projects, and since we started this interview traditionally, lets end this shit traditionally too like your last message, promotional stuffs, shout outs and whatever, man! This page is all yours!
