Interviewed by: Corix BalucaNo Bullshit: -Hails! My brother Manos, What’s up with Putrefied Genitalia? How’s Greece doin’? Putrefied Genitalia [Manos]: -Hailz to you Corix bro! Everything cool in the PUTREFIED GENITALIA camp! Thank you very much for your killer support! Greece is as always; brutal as fuck!
NB: -I thought you have already found for a label to released your MCD but we’ve talk a while ago and you said that you haven’t found it yet, what happen?
MANOS: -PUTREFIED GENITALIA is still looking for a label to release our "FORCED SELF CASTRATION" MCD. We have recorded 9 tracks of total running time about 23 minutes. We are still sending 4-track promos around the globe always receiving positive feedback on our work.
NB: -Why are you looking for labels to release your materials? Why not releasing on your own? Any reason?
MANOS: -The basic reason is that a label can promote the bands work, so the band can concentrate only in the music. It is great to promote your music by yourself as we do up to now because you are getting to know many interesting people, get some trades and stuff, but that steals time from your practicing in your instrument or from rehearsing with the band. Besides, a label can close some dates for the band to play live shows, even as a support act in bigger bands. The "INHUMAN HUNGER" promo 2002 was a completely D.I.Y. release. We also plan to release the "FORCED SELF CASTRATION" MCD as a D.I.Y. release if we don´t get any particular offer from a label.
NB: -I know you have an obligation, are you now in the military service? Does it affect your band?
MANOS: -No, my friend! No fuckin´ military service no more! I was 18 months in this shit!
NB: -Is it really true that all men in your country have an obligation to join in the military service? What are the reason of your government of doing this kind of thing?
MANOS: -Yes. Unfortunately it´s fuckin´true. The main reason for this is that Greece has only about 10 million population, so the permanent army force can never be big enough. When I was called to serve in the Greek Army, I had to stay 18 months! Today I would go for only 12 months. The last governments have tried to reduce the time needed to serve the army as they see that a young man has a lot of things to do, but most of all his life to lead!
NB: -How ‘bout having long hair? I know it is prohibited in the military?
MANOS: -That is also true bro! I used to have long hair myself before. A few months before joining the army I shaved my head. I still shave my head up to these days.. One last thing I want to say about the army is that I wish it didn´t exist...
NB: -All bands that I received and heard from your country really kicks ass, could you pls. Tell us about your country and the underground scene? Who are the bands in your country that you really looked up and praised?
MANOS: -The underground scene in Greece is really a very active one with bands that play almost every kind of extreme musick! INVERACITY is according to my opinion the best band in Greece. These guys really kick ass! They released their full length “Circle Of Perversion” from UNMATCHED BRUTALITY. This is simply the best brutal cd that has ever been released from a Greek band! Another really great band is EXTREME VIOLENCE. They are one of my favourite Greek bands. EXTREME VIOLENCE are in the CANNIBAL CORPSE vein and are soon to release their full length from SEVARED RECORDS. Also everyone in Greece respects the cult legends ATAVISM. ATAVISM are the MORTICIAN of Greece! Also VULNUS are brutal as fuck! It's like Texas has landed in Greece!!! Other cool bands are CARNAL REDEMPTION, ANGRIST (R.I.P.), MASS INFECTION, MURDER ONE, FLESHART (R.I.P.) and MORBIDITY. I think that a scene report from Greece must be done pretty soon bro!!!
NB: -When did you found death metal and gore? Do you listen to non metal music before? How about hardcore/punk?
MANOS: -The first death metal records that I listened to were milestones like OBITUARY´s “Slowly We Rot”, DEICIDE´s “Deicide” and MALEVOLENT CREATION´s “The Ten Commandments”. I listened those LPs at my closest friend´s house along with another friend we had then. I always listened to non-metal music. I still do. My all time favourite band is THE CURE! About punk and hardcore, I am really into hardcore and I love straight punk music. In fact, I am listening POISON IDEA´s “Feel the Darkness” right now and I am about to go to a HATEBREED's live show in Athens next Tuesday!!! I also want to say that I have a noise side project called THIS IS NOW / DEATH TV recording only feedback and noises.
NB: -You met Putrefied Genitalia at show are you been fan of them before you join the band? And what happen to Andrew? Why he left the band?
MANOS: -In fact I didn´t know the band at all! I just went to a show to catch INVERACITY live and was amazed with the brutality and primitive feeling that PUTREFIED GENITALIA were spreading over the crowd! Immediately I bought their INHUMAN HUNGER 2002 promo and thought that goddamn it I wanted to play in a fuckin´ brutal band as PUTREFIED GENITALIA. Andrew was the bass player then. I talked to him after the show about how I wanted to play in a band. He said that he was just about to leave PUTREFIED GENITALIA for personal reasons. So, it was my chance, don´t you think so? And I got it!
NB: -Putrefied Genitalia music before was death/grind, and I have noticed right now in your latest materials is that you have a lot of musical changes, I haven’t heard any grind elements, you sounded horror gore and death with dark influence in it, that sounded sick! Who’s idea is this? How you guys collaborate in song writing? And who mostly write the songs?
MANOS: -PUTREFIED GENITALIA are trying to improve day by day! By that I don´t mean to say anything bad about grind. Grind is in our veins and it is one of the music styles that all in the band really love! We are trying to become better in our instruments, catch the primitive feeling of death metal and also turn everyday´s sickness into music. Besides, we are all into horror films…, so there you have it!!! PUTREFIED GENITALIA is a band that hasn´t got a leader. The other guys in the band accepted me as an equal member of the band from the very beginning and I want to thank them for that. Music and songwriting is done collectively by all members of PUTREFIED GENITALIA. The intention is to remain true to ourselves and sick!
NB: -I know you love getting drunk too like me, if I have an opportunity to visit your country someday, what is your favorite alcohol and beers that you could offer me that could make me very wasted? Hehe…I love getting wasted, man!
MANOS: -Hell Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesss!!! I love drinking! There is a Greek alcohol drink called tsipouro! That would be fine to get wasted for dayz bro!!!
NB: -Do you drink on rehearsal, or before the show? Who in the band abuses alcohol too much? And how about weeds?
MANOS: -I love drinking on rehearsals, but before the show I prefer to stay calm. I think that we all abuse alcohol too much! Well..., maybe I am a bit more Alcoholic! He,he,he...! In fact tonight I am going to a friend to write some poetry (Yes, I write too, as you do bro!) and get wasted! About weeds… I don´t even smoke…
NB: -Do you believed in any superstitious belief? Do you believed lost souls exists? Do you have any experience about these kind of stuff? Would you share it?
MANOS: -FUCK NO! I don´t believe any kind of that stuff! I was christened without my permission. I was grown as a fuckin' Christian, but no more!!! I also don´t believe in the existence of soul. All these things make me very angry as I think that they are cheating on us to get some more money people like priests, popes or other shit! I believe that WHEN YOU DIE, YOU DIE! Nothing more or less. YOU JUST ROT IN A HOLE IN THE GROUND MAN! FUCKIN´ DEATH!!!
NB: -You guys also deal with porn stuff, do you love fucking whores? Are you the kind of guy who picked up whores on streets?
MANOS: -No man! I like porn stuff, but I am not gonna waste myself in whores.- However, I recently tend to believe that all women are fuckin´ whores. So, I am a bit confused I guess.
NB: -Alright, how ‘bout sports, what’s your favorite sports besides metal music? And how’s the 2004 olympics that was held in Athens, in your country, did you watch it live?
MANOS: -My favourite sport is drinking and playing or listening music. Olympics is just a chance for major companies to earn more money. So, I say to all of them FUCK OFF! If you want pure Olympics get into a time machine and back to ancient Greece…
