Interview with Chris of Impaled Zine

This guy from Impaled zine and also from the band called LORD CAIPHAS & DAWN OF DESTRUCTION was the first man I’ve ever met somewhere in Maragondon, Cavite that exist, believed, and hail the ethics of d.i.y, and also believes that, so much money involved in making music is not that fuckin’ big issue! You should have mind & heart in making punk, hardcore, metal record & music, so, here’s Chris Ureta.

NO BULLSHIT: Hows life doin’ man? And the rest of your strong minded gangs down from the fuckin’ Westside Cavite?
CHRIS URETA: I’m the only one active here in Maragondon when it comes to the u.g scene here. [my band and my zine], thanx, I’m ok here…

NB: When did you start writing zine? Who and what inspires you of writing cool shits like this?
CHRIS: I started this thing way back Jan. 13, 2002, I just have a “Knack” of doing this since I graduated from mascom and besides I wanna promote the local u.g scene here specially DOOM METAL.

NB: Pls. tell us about your first ish to the latest, what was all about? What kind of music you focus and stuff into your zine?
CHRIS: My first ish was our band LORD CAIPHAS appearance on a short copy bios & some other articles contributed by a friend & inties on ACHERON & bios also. The zine is mixed of type written & hand written one! Truly crappy!

NB: Writing zines ain’t that easy, I myself experience that, who and what gives you headache and ass pain of writing zine?
CHRIS: Persuading bands, zines, distro labels to appear on the zine sometimes they don’t trust you especially if your new and lots of mail gets lost in the P.O.
CORIX of NB: Yeah! I also experience that since I’m fuckin’ new in the zine scene! Sometimes they just ignore me think that I’m a fuckin’ riff off! But hey! I’m fuckin’ real, alright?!

NB: In your issue # 3, I found out that you got loads of foreign flyers , ads and foreign bands who are in the u.g, in my own opinion, it seems like, you’re not that big supporter of our homegrown u.g bands and scene that really fucks and not a superficial bullshits that sucks! Why was that? Pls. explain?
CHRIS: It’s fuckin’ simple! I have hard time approaching or haunting local bands, beside there are no doom bands here, so I have no choices but to go to foreign bands for ads, flyer, reviews and bios to be featured on my zine.

NB: I heard about your “IMPALED LEAGUE ORG.” whats the main objective of that org.?
CHRIS: Well, IMPALED ORG. was created to be a sort of a brotherhood amongst bands! So that if there’s a gig, we’re all there UNITED!, supporting each and everyone!

NB: As I have said, writing zines ain’t that easy, money involves for researching, publishing, renting a personal computer if you have’nt own a PC, and we all both don’t know if the copies that we published in every issue will be sold! It happens only for trade,of some other zine writers in other way, it is a non profit! Not a fuckin’ business!, my question is, why are you writing zine? What are the main reason and objectives? Do you think zine help you for your day by day for surviving?
CHRIS: It does’nt! I mean you know, I know that, being in the u.g does’nt earn that much. For me it’s just a pleasure of doing it, exposing, promoting a band, I’ll be known, I have no objective or whatsoever I just do it, for the love of the u.g scene.

NB: What is your own interpretation of u.g and d.i.y ethics? Do you think u.g will live forever even though we are being fucked up by the capitalist and the bullshit mainstream?
CHRIS: U.G scene will live! If all of us here in the u.g scene will unite to the fullest! And not be an assholes! And pretenders! ‘cuz theres a lot of posser in the u.g “the jologs” . u.g will survive believe me!

NB: About your bands LORD CAIPHAS and D.O.D, whats new about them? Tell us the latest about your bands, news, updates and whatever, man!
CHRIS: D.O.D & LORD CAIPHAS are still active! But for now we have no new materials to offer, simply because we haven’t rehearse since last Nov. 22 gig here. But will be on business as soon as each members are free with their time.

NB: Lets bring down the notch, what you see and what you heard, what can you say about the zine scene and u.g music scene in Cavite Westside?
CHRIS: Zine, bands here in Cavite are not that active, some are! Some are not! ‘cuz most bands some have an “ego” problem.

NB: Do you have hatred, aggression, depression, angst in this country or in the whole world in general? If you have, then I wanna hear it! Shout it loud in this piece of shit
CHRIS: Peace be man!, I only have that shit you are talking when im creating songs, but I am still an average normal type of person, you know!

NB: I’m out of questions to ask, lets do the fuckin’ traditional thing of ending an interview, now its your time to do the traditional shout outs if you still like to do it traditionally.
