Interview with Marco of Hatemail

I got hooked with them the first time I heard their music, and to know more about the Cebu scene, now here comes from Cebu scenester “Hatemail”. These guys are cool! So check them out motherfuckers! All questions answered by the frontman Marco Cabelin.

NO BULLSHIT: -Kamusta Cebu metal scene diha bai? Hows life doin' from day one of your existence?
Marco [vocals]:- The scene is so silent but it doesnt mean metal is dead. I believe it will come back. Our lives is so busy now on the record and the other members are busy also with their studies.

NB:- Is there any previous releases from Hatemail?
Marco:- We did "pain that lives inside" on the thinkpositiverecords compilation cd entitled " the battle continues....volume 1". We have nothing but new songs for the record.

NB:- How many hatemail do you recieve in a week?
Marco:- Always hahahahah

NB:- You are all still studyin' right? What courses are you all taking? May I know your hate ages, man?
Marco:- I’m taking up caregiving studies right now. bassist and drummer is still on OOSY(out of school youth) haha, one of our guitar player just graduated last month and the other is taking up commerce. I’m 23 the rest are 22 and 18.

NB:- Can you gave us 5 bands that inspires Hatemail that much?
Marco:- Cant really tell about it, we have lots of influence from metal/punk/hardcore/grind/speedcore. Also into death/black/goth music.

NB:- Who among the bands love poetry? Who mostly write your songs?
Marco:- I love poetry and I write mostly the songs.

NB:- I really like your song "waiting to die", I feel some brutal groove in it, is it about frustrations? Whats the story behind it?
Marco:- Its about my dad who had this sickening condition. I write the song before he passed away. We really don’t know when a person dies and never expected it.

NB:- Where in Cebu city mostly metal heads gather? Is there any weekend metal show gathering down there?
Marco:- Anywhere you can see metalheads in here but not really gathered unless if they can sense something that there is a show in that place. Before almost every weekend there's always a show but due to the mainstream culture in here, pathetic organizers in there.....not anymore but only they can play on invitations.

NB:- Rate your scene down south? From 1 to 10, punk, hardcore, metal in general.
Marco:- Can’t rate them all but I’m telling you they still exist, but mostly punk/hardcore people in here are always be seen in streets, anywhere roaming the city.

NB:- Is punk, hardcore, and metal united in Cebu?
Marco:- Before, you can never unite those 3 it is because of those bands that making an issue, thinking that the world revolves around them. Bands that makes them think they are the best. And what I mean is those new-aged experts with this smart-ass attitude. But now, fortunately bands here can play with this punk/hardcore/metal show on one.

NB:- Who are those cebuano metal bands that you think really kicks damn asses?
Marco: -Not really a metal band but sum kinda hardcore band called RIBCAGE. Those guys are great and good people unto you.

NB:- This comin' fuckin' election, who are those politicians in your vote lists? And do you think those politicians in your mind will change the rotten system here in the Philippines?
Marco:- hahaha nice question, I haven’t register how many times because I hate those politicians. I’m not voting for them. They’re just only good in FAME but with no BRAINS at all.

NB:- What are the things in our country that you really hate? And what is it in your life that you would like to change?
Marco:- I hate those people who are trying to inflict other innocent people. Frat wars. I have noting to change about my life.

NB:- Do you hate God?
Marco:- Why do i????
