Interview with Vic Jarlego

VIC JARLEGO

Interviewed by: Corix Baluca

For me, this guy is actually an alien, or I can say a Humanoid, imagine he is pounding drums with four bands that are into death metal , grind and thrash and sometimes played 4 bands in one gig, this guy is a human drum machine, I hail this guy! Now read on motherfucks!

Hails! Brother! I know you are fucking busy with your 4 to 5 bands, what other stuffs outside metal you are busy with?

- Vic Jarlego – Hello grind – Corix! I’m doing fine with my bands, Pathogen will be entering the studio on April this year, also my band Toxemia is preparing for its next record so be ready for your ears to bleed. I’m looking for a job to support my finances. As of now, I can’t play 100% coz I broke my right foot.

When did you start playing drums? How did you practice that skill since I know that you don’t have any drums instrument at home?

- I start playing drums when I was 10, I go to the studio once to thrice a week for rehearsal with my bands. Toxemia never rehearse but it’s a great band with a big heart for the U.G and have lots of appreciation for the true u.g freaks!

I know you also play guitar, but why is it that you prioritized your skills in drumming? Is there any in your family who plays drums too?

- I only play guitar at home or when I drink alcohol with my friends. I prioritized drums simply because I like it and for me it’s the heart of the band. If a drummer commits mistake in a live show all the other members are affected, you know what I mean! My older brother also play drums.

When you were just starting to play drums, who are those drummer that you looked up?

- Igor Cavalera – Sepultura, Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, and Vinnie Paul of Pantera, I used to watched their live videos during my high school days, I could say that they really inspires me.

Pls. tell us some of your favorite drummer local and foreign?

Local: Randyll – DFTW, John – End of Man, Gil of LOC/Religious Nightmares and Corix of anus De Satanus [this guy is cool!]

Foreign : Pete Sandoval – Morbid Angel, Jordan – Debonified/Lust Of Decay, Nicko Mc Brain – Iron Maiden, Dave Lombardo – Slayer, Ventor – Kreator, Neil Peart - Rush

By the way, how did you manage your time with your four bands? How bout the rehearsals? Gigs? How did you manage it? Did sometimes give you a headache, pressure conflict? Or did sometimes you think to quit some of the bands you are involved in?

- I don’t have job now, so I can manage my time easy. Pathogen rehearse once or twice a week, the same with revolver, Negatron’s bassist is very busy right now, but it still and always active in the scene, we practice on or before the gig, Morloch is hanging up right now for same reasons and as I’ve said earlier Toxemia never rehearse, but it’s a great band with cool members from different planets! Haha! There’s no time to quit! Headache? Sometimes but I just enjoy the gig.

How did you discover metal? What kind of music you are into when you first discover it?

- Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Sepultura, Pantera are the foundation of my music, I grow up with these bands although they change their music, I still do respect them, memories are kept in all their older stuffs. Metal really change my life, it develops me musically and personally. I listen to all genres of metal out personally, I’m into the old school death metal style.

Tell us at least 15 of your current stuffs you enjoyed listening:

- Morbid Angel- Blessed are the Sick
- Angel corpse – Hammer of Gods
- Carcass – Necrotism, Descanting the Insalubrious / Symphonies of Sickness
- Avulsed – Stabwound Orgasm
- Dismember – Death metal
- Napalm Death – Utopia banished
- Brutality – When the sky Turns Black
- Death – Human Leprosy
- Kreator – Coma of Souls / Pleasure to Kill
- Marduk – Night wing / Plague Angel
- Suffocation – Souls to Deny / Effigy pf the Forgotten
- Necrophagist – Epitaph
- Black Sabbath – Paranoid / Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
- Rush – Moving Pictures
- Malevolent Creation – 10 Commandment

Not current stuffs but my all time favorites.

Ok, lets go down to some other serious topics, how many times you masturbate in a day? Hehe

- Once or twice a day since my fiancé is in Taiwan. Haha!

All of us human fall in love you know, how will you define love? Who is your first crush and first kiss?  hehe.

- Everybody needs love, no doubt for it. Love is my dedication to U.G scene and to death metal. metal is my life, my fiancé is my life and my inspiration [my one woman band] crush? My fiancé for she supports me, trusted and understand the way I am. First kiss? My dog Gretchen [RIP] hehe! Ask my fiancé! You know her.

But anyway, seriously, what can you say about our country’s situation? Do you have any views why our country is so fucked up?

- Toxemia screams about “Greed for power, money and fame! That’s for sure is one of the many reasons why our gov’t is so fucked up!

Since our country is so fucked up! How about if you will be given a chance to migrate in Mars, will you go there? Will you play drums with an alien there?

- No! Maybe for fun. I will never play drums with an alien coz they don’t believe in Human Rights! Haha! I think aliens have more brutal, technical and sick music than us, they also have better instrument than us that even the drum machine of Mortician can’t do that! Haha!

And how about our scene? What can you say about it? Do you think we are getting huge now?

- Our scene is great! More and more bands coming out with their materials, there’s so many genres now, unlike before, it’s just some bands and doesn’t know the real meaning of U.G. thanx to the fanzines / webzines writer and author, they help a lot to educate the kids or the new in the scene, also I’d like to thank the gig producers/organizers, they really are a big help to make the scene alive and kick Eminem’s ass!

How about in your place St. Paul, L.A Guna, what can you say about your scene there? Do you think kids there are focusing the underground ethics like DIY?

- There’s no scene here in St. Paul L.A Guna. Only my bands, Village Idiots also ADA from San Pedro. A lot of newer bands thought they were in a U.G scene but they lack of education, they did not support any zine or scene. I still respect them though they were the next big bands in PULP and NU.

How about God? Do you believe in him? And your views about religion?

- I respect any religion, I became open minded when I joined the band “Toxemia” hehe! But for me Black Sabbath is God, My music is God! My Fiance is God! All that I admire and love is God!
